Nico Schmidt is an investigative reporter at Investigate Europe, specialising in AI accountability. His recent work has exposed how AI is supercharging financial scams across Europe, how European companies export facial-recognition technology for uses heavily restricted at home, and how industry lobbying has shrouded data-centre operators’ environmental reporting in secrecy. A multiple-time nominee for Germany’s Reporterpreis, his work has won an IJ4EU Impact Award. He recently served as a Pulitzer Center AI Accountability Fellow.
