UNCOVERED Conference 2023
FAQ
What is IJ4EU?
IJ4EU (Investigative Journalism for Europe) is a fund supporting cross-border investigative journalism in and around the European Union. It provides grants to teams of journalists or news organisations in Europe investigating topics of public interest.
IJ4EU’s mission is to strengthen the watchdog role of investigative journalism in Europe. Its focus on supporting cross-border projects acknowledges the increasingly transnational nature of public-interest stories. Its purpose is to foster and strengthen collaboration among European journalists and newsrooms by providing them with grant funding, mentoring, training, expert support and networking opportunities. It also seeks to raise the value of and incentivise quality investigative journalism and build trust in the Fourth Estate.
IJ4EU was first set up as a pilot programme in 2018. Since then, it has helped hundreds of newsrooms and freelancers across Europe tackle ambitious stories on important topics.
The IJ4EU fund is managed by a consortium of three organisations: the International Press Institute (IPI), the European Journalism Centre (EJC) and the European Centre for Press and Media Freedom (ECPMF). The consortium also works closely with Arena for Journalism in Europe (Arena), which provides specialist tools and technical expertise.
